You will probably arrive by airplane either at Rome, Fiumicino Airport (FCO) [named "Leonardo Da Vinci"], or at Naples, Capodichino Airport. In both case you will find hereafter the instructions to reach Salerno.

To reach the hotel you choose from Salerno (Railway Station), please visit the Accomodation page.

To reach the Conference site (University of Salerno) from Salerno (Railway Station), please visit the Conference Venue page.

From Fiumicino Airport to Salerno Railway Station

You have the following two steps.

1. From Rome Airport "Leonardo da Vinci" (Fiumicino Airport) to Roma Railway Station (Roma Termini)
You may reach Roma Railway Station (Roma Termini) from the Rome Airport (Fiumicino Airport) by train; a taxi is not recommended because of the distance. Once at the Arrival Exit go to the Railway Station inside the Airport (Fiumicino Airport) and take the train to Roma Railway Station (Roma Termini): the ticket must be bought at the FS office and stamped at the yellow machines before getting on the train. At the same office you can also buy the ticket from Roma Railway Station (Roma Termini) to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno). There is an on-line official timetable of the Italian Railways (FS) and you can use the name of the quoted railway stations as departure or arrival railway stations. Note that in the official timetable of the Italian Railways (FS), Fiumicino Airport is the name for Rome Airport Railway Station, Roma Termini is the name for Roma Railway Station and Salerno is the name for Salerno Railway Station.
Remember to stamp the ticket at the yellow machines before getting on the train.

2. From Rome Railway Station (Roma Termini) to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno)
Once in Roma Railway Station (Roma Termini) get a train to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno).
There is an on-line official timetable of the Italian Railways (FS) and you can use the name of the quoted railway stations as departure or arrival railway stations.
Remember to stamp the ticket at the yellow machines before getting on the train.

From Naples Airport (Capodichino) to Salerno Railway Station: our suggestion

For small groups (1-3 persons) the price of the trip from Naples Airport to Salerno (or Fisciano/Baronissi) by a rented car with driver should more or less the same than by public bus or train and you have a 50 minutes' journey vs. 3 hours' journey (visit the frame below).

From Naples Airport (Capodichino) to Salerno Railway Station: by train

You have the following two steps.

1. From Naples Airport (Capodichino) to Napoli Railway Station (Napoli Centrale)
At Naples Airport (Capodichino) you may take the bus 3S (orange bus) just in front of the Airport entrance (every 15 minutes on weekdays, from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm, on Sunday the races are reduced): the tickets (€ 1) are sold inside the Airport at the newsagents and should be stamped on the bus. You have to get down at "Piazza Garibaldi" (Garibaldi Square) and walk a little bit through the square towards the Napoli Railway Station (Napoli Centrale). There is also a bus departing from the parking lot just on the right of the Airport Arrival gate ("Alibus" - ticket on board about € 3, every 30 minutes, from 6:30 am to 11:30 pm). Alibus connects (directly) Naples Airport with Napoli Railway Station with only one intermediate stop (at Piazza Municipio, Port Terminal).

2. From Napoli Railway Station (Napoli Centrale) to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno)
Once in Napoli Railway Station (Napoli Centrale) get a train to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno).
There is an on-line official timetable of the Italian Railways (FS) and you can use the name of the quoted railway stations as departure or arrival railway stations. Note that in the official timetable of the Italian Railways (FS), Napoli Centrale is the name for Naples Railway Station and Salerno is the name of Salerno Railway Station. For the sake of completeness, you should consider also the departures from "Napoli Piazza Garibaldi", which is another railway station, exactly under Napoli Centrale (there is a direct stairway).
Remember to stamp the ticket at the yellow machines before getting on the train.
An alternative: SITA bus.

From Naples Airport (Capodichino) to Salerno Railway Station: by direct bus

At Naples Airport (Capodichino) you may take the SITA bus running directly to Salerno (€ 7). This bus runs only 4 times and only on weekdays from the airport and arrives at the centre of Salerno (about in 60 minutes), near the Railway Station. Check carefully the timetable (no run on Sundays). The bus is leaving from the street ahead of the Airport, and you have to walk about 300 mt. to reach the bus-stop (it is not evident from indications).

From Naples Airport (Capodichino) to Salerno Railway Station: by taxi or by rented car

Alternative ways are:

  1. by rented car with driver (Limousine service) from Capodichino Airport to Salerno: Project Napoli Service (PNS) Italian Version, English Version, French Version. You should ask for predetermined fees of the trip by e-mail.
  2. by taxi (a 40-50 minutes' journey) € 70/80.

From Naples Airport (Capodichino) to Salerno Railway Station: by car

Take the highway A3 Naples - Salerno: exit Vietri sul Mare and then right to Salerno center.

   How to come back home

You may follow the same steps done to reach Salerno, in the inverse order.
